How to create smooth transition between thicker and thinner walls? (top/bottom)

Hello!

I am creating clay cutters in Fusion 360. Think cookie cutters, but for clay to make earrings out of it.

This is my first post, so if you need extra information, just let me know. I didn't really know what to include.

My designs are super basic, but it works fine for me.
The only thing I can not find is how to create smooth walls that are 3-4mm at the bottom and 0.4mm at the top (cutting edge).

When I create a sketch I make an offset for the sketch 3 times (0.4mm, 1,5mm, and 3mm) and I extrude in the same order at 10mm, 5mm, 3mm.

What I want to achieve are walls that are smooth from top to bottom, like this:

thicker bottom on one sideSchermafbeelding 2020-03-10 om 23.05.36.png  or thicker on both sides. Schermafbeelding 2020-03-10 om 23.05.50.png

I tried the filet tool. This makes the 'bump' more rounded, but it's not entirely what I am looking for.

When I try the chamfer or draft tool I get error messages (and I don't know if this is the right tool to achieve this look)

This is the max setting I could get using chamfer. But again, not sure if I'm doing/ using it right.

Thanks!

I think you might be better off using a Sweep feature for this. I've attached a quick model for you to look at. It's not exactly the same as yours but I hope it demonstrates a possible way forward. You will of course want to add constraints to fully define the sketches (unlike my quick example!!).

If this answers your question please mark the thread as solved as it can help others find solutions in the future.

I've created a Windows application (and now Mac as well) for creating custom thread files for Fusion. You can find out about it here. Hope you find it useful.
If you need to know how to offset threads for 3D printing then I've created a guide here which you might find useful.
If you would like to send me a tip for any help I've provided or for any of my software applications you've found useful, you can do this via my Ko-Fi page here.

Oh, thanks!

I didn't know that feature, I'm going to learn a bit on that today!

I managed to design the profile shape, thanks to your design. Thank you!

I've been learning a lot this morning, but I just don't manage to finish the sweep entirely.

I've been reading online that possible solutions were to select the path first and then the profile, but that didn't help.

Then I read I had to untick the box 'Chain' and select the path one by one. This works fine, until the last edge. It doesn't matter where I start, it's always the last edge that gives an error.

Is it just impossible to sweep around angles? Because most of my designs have angles of < and > 90 degrees.

Thank you!

your sweep profile needs to start normal to the path, in your picture it's at an angle to it.   one way to achieve that would be to create a "plane along path" and put your sketch on the new plane.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

I have to admit I have no clue what all this is, or what to do but I will try to dig deeper with the clues I got here.

Thanks!

I just managed to create the shape!

I wanted to learn it because I have a ton of shapes to adjust like this.

Thank you so much for all the help! The combination of the two suggested solutions was a match for me!

Thank you!
