How to create a radius?

Create radius.jpg

This has been driving me nuts for a few nights now.

How do I create a radius at the corner as shown in my painting? I was thinking to sketch a circle, use dimension to position the center of the radius below the outside diameter, then revolve it around, and fill in the gap that would be left somehow, but I can't select the "body" (If thats what it's called" I don't have any CAD experience except for playing with this for a few days.

Any help would be great,

Ed

PS: How can I change the view to show the extruded holes in the center of the part as dotted lines in the 3D view?

This is pretty easy.  Use the "Sketch Fillet" command - this will create your radius fairly easily.

Here is a screecast showing how to do it:

For your "P.S.", I think you want to set your view type to "Shaded with Hidden Edges":

This is the result:

Hope this helps,

Excellent!

But my the center of my radius isn't quite equal from the two lines I drew.

The center is 4mm from the upright face, but only 2.5mm from the horizontal face, so I need to drop it straight down 1.5 mm, if that makes much sense.

Thanks

Sorry for the delay - I stopped for the day after my initial response.

Anyway, good point - my solution assumed that you wanted a tangent arc here.  If you want unequal distances from horizontal and vertical lines, then the arc will not be tangent to one of those.

There are a couple of ways to do this.  Here is one solution.  Hopefully this is close to what you want.  This method uses Sketch Trim to get rid of unnecessary pieces.  Position the circle in the size and position that you want, then use Trim to clean it up.

Thats the ticket!

But how do I roll that into the 3D part?

I can't select the edge of the round extrusion because its not a "line".

Is it easier to sketch the whole part 2D, then revolve it to make it 3D?

Yes, sketching the profile of what is basically a lathe part and the. Revolving it around the center axis  is the way to go.

You can create an axis through your exising cylinder, and use that as the axis for Revolve:
