How to Align two components together?

Hi,

I have two parts that I need to be aligned and I can't figure out how to do that with the Joints. In solidworks or NX I would have used a pretty simple alignment constraint but no such thing seems to exist in Fusion 360. In the picture below I have a bracket which is cylindrically constrained already; I just need it ot be parallel to the wall to its left. Planars and offsets didn't seem to do the trick, it just wants to move the whole bracket and says there is a joint conflict. I feel like I must be missing something simple here, thanks for any guidance.

Hi,

Is it possible for you to share your model with us? It will help us to understand the senario much better.

In general, Fusion 360 has capability of aliginig parts with out adding constrins. Please look for "Align" command under "Modify" tools.

Using Align tool, we can align just geometries i.e face to face like "mate", we can also align poisitions along with geometry using snaps. For your case, aligning using geometry should work, if there are no other conflicts with exsisting joint constrains.  Use SHIFT key to disable snap selection and enable geometry selection.

I hope this helps you.

If you would like to share your model along with a screen cast, please contact prasad.durgam@autodesk.com.

Thank you Prasad, the Align tool helped quite a bit. In order to keep it aligned as I moved my model about, I had to Ground the components after aligning them. Is there any other way to lock them aligned in place? I think an actual Alignment or Parallel joint/constraint might be a good idea in future versions of Fusion 360!

Hi @Zero__,

Glad to know that Align tool helped you.

I am trying to understand your workflows. Are you looking for something like, as-built joint constrains?
If you are looking for as-built joints, Fusion 360 has capability to create the constrains with out changing the actual alignments of the components.

It would be really great if you can share your model and workflow, that will help me to understand your need clearly.

Thanks.

Prasad
