I'm trying to align my NSK bearing rail bolt holes with the slot in an extruded aluminum profile, but I just can't figure out how to use a joint to do it.

Thanks for posting!

It's a good question.  What often works well in these cases is to use the Align command to get the components in the right place (align side faces, mating faces, etc), then use a Snapshot feature, and an As-Built Joint, of type Rigid to stick them together.

If you are willing to share/attach the model, I'd be happy to show you some examples on your model.

Sorry, but for some reason that link does not work for me.  Can you add me directly to your project as jeff.strater@autodesk.com ?  Alternatively, just share this particular model, or export it as an archive and attach it to this thread.

Thanks,

Jeff

In the meantime, I've put together a screencast that shows how I did something that I think is similar.

The key here was to activate each component and insert a midplane workplane in the slot in one component, and in the middle of the holes in the other.

Then, I use Align to align the end faces and the mating faces of the components, then the midplane workplanes to align the holes with the slot.

Then, I can create an As-Built rigid joint between the components to keep them in that orientation.

Here is the screencast:  http://autode.sk/1ED3gFp

Hope this helps,

Jeff
