How do I slice a body with specific thickness?

Wondering if there is a way to make slices of a body with equal thicknesses.  I have a model that I need a dxf crossection every 1" for prototyping.   The only way I'm able to do it is:

1.Make an offset plane every 1"

2.Create a sketch on each offset plane

3.Save each sketch as dxf

My model is fairly large so this method would take several hours of tedious work.  Any Ideas of a quicker way?

have you tried "123 Make" http://www.123dapp.com/make for making the slices that you need.
