How do I create a single line text for engraving

I am trying to run an engraving operation for some text on a piece of aluminum using a diamond drag engraver.  The text comes out in bubble letters with the outline of the text as the sketch.  For the engraving that I want I really need a single line sketch in the center of these outline sketches.  Is this possible without doing it manually? Here is a picture for reference:

Unfortunately, there is no good way to do this using the sketch text command in Fusion.

I would recommend creating the text in another tool and exporting it as an SVG.  Fusion can import SVG into a sketch.

There is an idea station entry for this:  text-engraving.  I would encourage you to vote for it!

Bummer! This would be a very useful thing to have.  That link you attached is for an issue that is listed as IMPLEMENTED so I am not sure that applies.  Thanks for the help.

Thanks, @Britton_B, I did not even notice the "implemented" label.  It confuses me a bit, because, outside of importing SVG, it is not really implemented at all, as far as I can tell.

There is another idea I found:  engrave-single-line-fonts, which is marked as "accepted", which also deals with this area.

@Britton_B

If you need that particular font you'll have to do it manually to get the center line, unless you take the thickness of the font walls and do your cuts offset to the inside.

Here is a bunch of single line fonts that I use in Fusion for engraving. Just make sure you explode the text so you can actually use them.

About stick Fonts (or double line TTF fonts) I signal the following document:

HOWTO: Fancy TTF and stick TTF fonts ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2310425 )

with a toolchain and a new FontFilter tool, to simplify the conversion of TTF fonts to stick fonts.

Hope that it can help somebody to draw own fonts.
