How can I join two tubes?

Hello,

I'm having problems while trying to cut and join two cylinders. Basically, I have a bigger tube with a 10mm thick wall and want to insert a perpendicular -smaller- tube in one of its sides:

What I did was combine the two tubes by cutting the bigger tube and keeping the tool (smaller tube) but I can't delete the remaining cutout:

BTW the smaller tube is hidden in that picture.

If I cut the remaining the cutout disappear and the bigger tube has no more cutout. How can I do this?

Thanks in advance!

Before the combine, the small tube can be replaced by temporary, solid bar, make the combine cut with the bar, and then shell the bar, or hide the bar, and keep the tube.

I think that is what you are saying,

Might help..

There is other ways, like extrude cut the diameter of the tube, from a sketch, but at least we have something to try...

Another approach would be to back up and create the tube in a different way from the start.  Depends on your work flow of course.  Here's a screen cast of an alternative approach.

Basic steps are-

-extrude the profile of the smaller tube.  In the dialog settings  set "start" to "from object,"  and select the face of the larger cylinder. for "operation" select "join."

-extrude the ID of the small tube (to cut the center out).  set "extents" to "All" and set the "operation" to "Cut"
