How can I create model parameters?

In the parameters dialog there are favorites, user parameters and model parameters. I only find the ability to create user parameters, which have no grouping.

I have noticed that when I delete a feature that is referenced, any dimension that is referenced is maintained in the parameters. The dimension is moved from the component to the Model Parameters section. (Sometimes at the top and other times elsewhere.) Is there a way to create Model Parameters using the parameters dialog. I would be find it especially useful to be able to create component parameters, that are specific to a component, but might be used in various locations in that component.

This is part of documenting a design. Naming everything is a big help, and I do use the explicit naming feature when filling in a dimension text box. There is one issue with that I have noticed. Auto-complete for those names does not work as it does for user parameters. It would make more sense to add general component parameters to the auto-complete list when working in the component.

You create model parameters two ways.  You can rename an existing model parameter using a model parameter that is created when you sketch, extruded, pattern, etc... and make it a favorite.  You can also do this on the fly by entering the model parameter name as you sketch, extrude, pattern, etc.. and they become favorite model parameters.  These parameters can be used throughout the design process and shared between assemblies using Derive and Inserted and breaking the link to the external file.  Video below demonstrates this process.

John:

I do create model parameters by putting the name in the expression box while entering dimensions, etc.
I was asking if there is a way to explicitly create a new model parameter using the parameters dialog.

No, there is not.
