Hey Autodesk - Can you Help? Cannot create or open drawings.

I'm running the personal version of Fusion 360. I cannot create or open a drawing. Every time I try, the drawing workspace opens briefly and then closes and returns to the design workspace - without ever showing the drawing. There is some variation in this behavior and sometimes Fusion 360 goes unresponsive or just closes.

I've found that every time I try to open or create a document, a Windows Event is generated and the faulting application is AcCoreConsole.exe. The Exception code is  0xc0000374 and the fault offset is 0x00000000000ff199. The full event text is included below.

I've posted here a couple of times over the past week for ideas and help but haven't had much luck in finding a solution.

This seems to be an issue with AcCoreConsole, though I believe there is probably something suspicious with my computer. I just want to find a solution - Is there someone there that could at least identify what that particular exception code and offset are for? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm completely new to this but really like Fusion 360 so far. I think it's a fantastic program and seems to be amazingly powerful. But 2D drawings are essential for what I want to use it for. If we can't find a solution I'm left to either buying a new computer or finding a new program, neither of which is appealing to me!

I've done a clean uninstall / reinstall, both manually and with the cleaner app, twice, with no change in behavior. I've also tried every other thing that I can think of and have spent 3 full days trying to find a solution.

Can you please help?

Thanks!

Gordon

Hi @gcgraham48

I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble. I see you've had no replies to this question. I might not be the best person to help, but maybe I can point you in the right direction:

There are a few things you can check.

  • Make sure your PC meets at least the minimum specs for running Fusion 360.
  • Have a look at your graphics setup.
  • Regarding AcCoreConsole.exe, this is one of the components that the drawing workspace uses. You could check to make sure your antivirus is not blocking it (maybe do a test with your antivirus disabled).

Hi Clint,

Thanks for the reply! I've already done a whole lot of things to try and find the error, including those that you've mentioned. But I might have found something that can be helpful in the log file. I rebooted Fusion 360 and tried to open the sample file that comes with it: Data Panel>Basic Training>08_Drawings>Connector Joint Drawing by double clicking on it (this has been my standard test so far). It failed and generated the same Windows Error Event that I've referred to in my previous posts. The time stamp on that event was 2/14/2022 8:00:17 AM.

Then I generated the Fusion 360 diagnostic log files and looked at the AppLogFileXXXXX.log that included that time. I searched for the entries just before 8:00:17 to see if there was anything related to the error. I found a lot of entries there (which I don't understand) that included references to the Joint Connector drawing, apparent errors with references to "can't create subscription to channel name" and "can't get channel, no oxygenID or channelName". It also includes "NEUTRON_BUG_ALERT(false && "ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER")",  FusionDoc::setInvalidParameterError, and

File: ..\..\Publish\FusionDoc\UI\FusionDocUI\AcCoreIPC\FusDocReverseInterop.cpp
Line: 209.

I don't understand any of this, but it does appear to be related to the event and may provide a clue if someone could take a look. I've attached the log and the entries that I'm referring to start at time stamp 20220214T080013.

Just to bore you, here's a list of some of the things I've already tried:

  • All combinations of clearing the cache, restarting Fusion 360, rebooting the computer
  • Clean uninstall and reinstall of Fusion 360, twice - using both the cleaner app and a manual clean uninstall
  • Installed Fusion 360 on my wife's computer and drawings work fine there
  • My computer is a 6 year old HP Envy Laptop that has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M GPU (DirectX 11.0, 4MB RAM) and an Intel HD Graphics 530 processor.
  • I have updated the drivers on both (though they were already at latest version according to Windows)
  • I have tried disabling the NVIDIA device and running on the Intel 530
  • I have used the NVIDIA Control Panel to make the NVIDIA GPU the preferred processor for Fusion 360
  • I've done a clean reboot of the computer and then turned McAfee Real Time Scanning and Firewall off, then loaded Fusion 360 and tried to open a document.
  • I've tried to open and create a document by all of the different ways I'm aware of
  • I've tried working offline with local documents
  • I've even tried printer on and printer off (OK, I'm not proud of that one, but hey...)
  • I've looked in the registry for anything Autodesk related that might look odd
  • The Windows error event mentions ntdll.dll as the faulting module. Some searching suggested that perhaps the dll could be corrupted. So I ran all three levels of DISM. I also ran SFC.
  • I've set all of the power related configuration items to maximize performance. I run my laptop on power only, not on battery.
  • Windows 10 Home is running the latest updates

None of these have made any difference. I will note that it does seem like the behavior when I try to create a new drawing from a design seems a little different than when I try to open the Joint Connector Drawing by double clicking on it (when there is no design loaded).

For reference, my computer setup is:

  • HP Envy Notebook 17t
  • Intel Core i7 6700 HQ 2.6GHz
  • 16 Gb RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 M 4Mb
  • Intel HD Graphics 530
  • Resolution 1920x1080
  • Windows 10 Home, latest Update

I've had this setup for about 6 years and don't seem to have problems with any of the other software.

Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. I'd be happy to try or test anything that you might feel would be helpful.

Thanks!

Gordon

Hi @gcgraham48

Something else you can try, if your setup has 2 graphics cards, i.e. an onboard card and an explicit card, is to set up your NVIDIA control panel for high performance.

I would reboot, then right click on your desktop and go to "NVIDIA Control Panel"

Snip20220215_4.png

See if adding AcCoreConsole and Fusion 360 helps.

Snip20220215_5.png

If this does not help, I'll ask @jodom4 to pass you on to someone else to troubleshoot this.

Clint, you're a genius!

That worked. I had previously used the NVIDIA control panel to select the NVIDIA high performance processor for both Fusion360.exe and fusionlauncher.exe. Making those changes did select the high performance processor for Fusion360, but it didn't solve the drawing issue.

It never occurred to me to treat accoreconsole separately. Although I was aware that it was the "faulting program" in the Windows error event, I just assumed it was part of Fusion360. You know what they say about making assumptions - I seem to have to keep relearning that. In hindsight, it makes perfect sense - so my bad.

I want to offer my sincere thanks to you for the time and effort you put into finding the solution. I had exhausted everything I could think of myself so you really saved the day. I very much appreciate the effort!

Thanks again!

Gordon

Hi Clint,

I'm back to not being able to create or open drawings. All had been going well until the new version hit (2.0.12392). It auto installed and then I was right back to the exact same behavior - can't create or load a drawing. The same Windows Error Event is generated indicating that accoreconsole is the faulting program.

I tried a full reboot of everything and even tried going back to the NVIDIA Control Panel and removing accontrolconsole.exe from the list of programs, adding it back in and then resetting the preferred gpu as the NVIDIA high performance processor (the thing that had cured the problem last time). It still doesn't work.

Do you have any further ideas?

Thanks!

Gordon

Hi @gcgraham48

I'm not the best person to troubleshoot this! It gets really tricky because Windows is trying to manage power, so is pushing some applications to run on the onboard card and others to the GPU. Having a look at my PC with an NVIDIA card, I would say you could try tweaking some settings to see what works for you.

I am not a graphics or hardware expert, so you will need to do a few experiments on your own.

you could try the following;

If that does not do it, you could try;

clintbrownWP9U8_2-1645254135720.png

You could also try adding the AutoCAD component, adcefwebbrowser.exe

Hi Clint,

It looks like you've saved the day again! With the new changes you recommended the drawing functionality now works again.

I had already discovered the abcdefwebbrowser.exe entry in the "Add" list of the NVIDIA Control Panel and had specified the high performance processor for it. That, on its own, didn't fix the problem.

It appears that changing the global setting for the "Preferred graphics processor" to "High-performance NVIDIA processor" was the change that made it work again. My NVIDIA Control Panel is a little different than yours, but I think that's the same setting you were referencing.

Hopefully with this change drawings will continue to work even after future updates.

It seems that the Fusion software is quite sensitive in this area. Sometimes it would simply open the drawing tab, spin for a while and then close the tab - but Fusion continued to operate correctly. But other times Fusion would crash hard or just go completely unresponsive. My thoughts have always been that great software just shouldn't crash - at the very least it seems like an outer block should catch any previously uncaught exceptions, clean up the "debris"  and display a message to the user - even if it's just "Unknown error occurred" or something like that. Perhaps the installation  program could provide recommended configuration changes to the user during installation when dual graphics processors are detected - or something like that.

Anyway, I am again very grateful for your solution and for your time and efforts. I would be completely lost and a bit disgruntled without the help! It makes a huge difference that you take the time to help out a nubie and it speaks highly of both you and Autodesk.

Nope, it didn't solve the issue. I discovered that if I wait 10 to 15 minutes the drawing will eventually open. I think you will need to look at this issue after the changes you made in the last update, because it was the thing that broken the Drawing Workspace...

Sorry to hear that the issue is still there.

We test a few machines and user accounts, and Fusion drawing works well. We have not reproduced this issue. Do you have a chance to try it in other PC, or is this issue reproducible in other environments?

Please also try clearing cache and clean re-installation.

  1. Clear cache and restart Fusion (Question Mark in right top corner -> Support and diagnostics -> Clear cache data)
  2. Clean uninstall and reinstall Fusion. Sometimes, wrong version upgrading leads to unexpected behaviours

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-do-a-manual...

If issue is still there, please help to create dump files from both AcCoreConsole.exe and Fusion.exe. You can launch process explorer together with Fusion, then start to use drawing. Once the issue happens again, please create dump files and share with us. These dump files will be helpful for us to check which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded when issue happens.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer

You can also send them via mail. My mail address is 'Liang.chen@autodesk.com'. Thanks for your support and patience.

Yeah, I have already tried a lot of "fixes" suggested by the Autodesk support, clear reinstalls, setting advanced graphics processors, nothing worked, trust me, I've tried everything.

Here are the files attached you've asked for: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bNKv1wamSuibp1Ck0fJgR4R2rEGjJ2Hl/view?usp=sharing

Hi enfeitador,

By the analysis from Dev team, there are some specific fonts installed the user's PC, such as Trirong-Regular (FontBase), which leads to the issue. We are working with another internal team to check the issue of Fonts. Please try to uninstall these fonts and check if drawing will be back to work. Thanks

Suggested workaround for now.
1. Uninstall Trirong-Regular (FontBase) from machine
2. Restart the machine.
3. Launch Fusion and try to create new drawing.
