Help with changing drawing dimension display

Hi all,

I have a model, and 2 drawings, links below.

http://a360.co/2iR6UW7

http://a360.co/2hFRQhV

This model and diagrams are in inches, as preferred.  However, it's tough to convert inch decimal to fractions while working in the shop.  Instead, it would be nice if I could set the dimensions to be displayed as fractional inches, making the fabrication easier.  I'm using the Mac OS app.  I've gone to Fusion360 -> Preferences -> Unit and Value Display, then selected "Fractional" for Foot and Inch display format.  However, my model nor my diagram is updated.  How can I apply this change to my existing model and diagrams?

Thanks,

Todd

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for posting. When you change Drawing preferences, it only impacts newly created drawings.  To change the display of dimensions on a pre-existing drawing, change the sheet settings found at the bottom of the application window. Shown below.  Please let me know if you have any issues changing the unit display.

Thanks Kris, you made my day!  A couple of quick questions.

1) I've set the precision to 1/16 precision.  How does rounding occur when it's more precise than 1/16? Does it round down, or up?  Down is ok in my scenario, but up may cause my drawer cabinet to be too large.

2) Is it possible to also do this in the model?  I input my dimensions as fractional when creating my components, but it would be nice to display the measurements as fractions too.  Honestly I'd prefer we just use metric, but unfortunately most everyone else in the US disagrees with me :(.

Thanks,

Todd

@Anonymous, for model (f3d design file), after you changing the "Foot and Inch display format "Preferences -> Unit and Value Display", those existing/created dimensions in sketch won't be updated automatically. This setting is only for model/design f3d file, not applied for 2d drawing.

One workaround: after changing to "fractional", change the unit setting to "Millimeter" and then back to "Inch" as below picture, it leads to all dimensions updated.

@Anonymous, For the first question you mentioned as below, the rounding occur normally as others. It rounds down if the value is less than (1/16) / 2, else round up.

   1/16:         0.0625

   (1/16) / 2:  0.03125

For value:  1.03124 (less than (1/16)/2), so it rounds down, value becomes:  1

   For value:  1.03125, value become 1 1/2

1) I've set the precision to 1/16 precision.  How does rounding occur when it's more precise than 1/16? Does it round down, or up?  Down is ok in my scenario, but up may cause my drawer cabinet to be too large.
