Help - one of my designs is permanently spinning and I cannot open it

Hi -

One of my designs, "circles-necklace" is showing a spinning thing all the time.  When I try to open it, Fusion complains that it is currently being saved so I cannot open it.    However, I'm not currently saving it but an earlier run of Fusion did crash and it might have been saving it at that time when it crashed.

How can I get the design back?

This has happened before but I don;t remember how it got resolved.

Thanks

Betty

Hi -

Okay -- After waiting some time, I loaded up fusion again and the spinning went away.  I guess it just look a LOT of time to do whatever it was doing.

Hi -- It turns out the issue was not solved.

I have two computers that run Fusion.

Machine A managed to open the design and I made some changes and hit the Save.  The Save never seemed to finish because the design was spinning. I just closed Fusion eventually.

Now, on Machine B, I cannot open that design because it is still being saved  -- this is after 24 hours have passed when I closed Fusion on Machine A.   So, I managed to open an older version on Machine B and will redo changes and try to save it under a new design and see what happens.

What happens if you try opening the file on computer A? Try switching to offline mode and opening the file, save then go back online. You could also try exporting the design as a f3d.

If the save has not completed before you close it's not going to be available on the cloud or your other computer.

This is a re-occurring issue for me;   a temporary solution may be found in post #8 from this thread:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-support/missing-saved-states/m-p/8244168#M34618

The "fix" worked for me until after a recent series of 'stealth' updates ("minor" updates pushed without explanation or documentation)- I suspect my periodic failure to save documents relates to these changes.    Choked files are queued locally- for me, I'm able to upload one, maybe 2 save states on Fusion boot- then it chokes;   I then Export a copy of the document, restart Fusion- which then pushes a couple more out of the queue before refusing to send the balance to the cloud.

I wonder what your auto save-state frequency is set to?   Mine is pegged at the minimum, 5 minutes.   Purely speculative, but are you a paid subscriber?   I'm trying to determine if the problem has to do with cloud credits or some such nonsense.

Another user contacted me via personal message to ask what works for me- it seems we are very much not alone.   If you explain your circumstance on the linked to thread, we might be able to generate enough attention to disrupt preconceptions about this problem, provoke address.

I think that for me, the problem arises only for very large design files and a slow upload speed.  I work on fusion in two different locations.  One has an upload speed of 1Mbps, so any big design file can take forever to save. For some reason, if they are big enough the save doesn't happen, or it happens but doesn't clear the spinning icon.

If I work on my second location, I have upload speeds of 50Mbps or more, and at that network connection speed, even the largest file I have uploads in less than a minute  and there's never an issue with un-saved designs or permanent spinning icons.
