Help on combining faces and retaining shape for embossing

Can you please help how I can make this with just 1 face on the dome? The revolved dome seems to have different faces where the dots on the sketch are. When I try to delete the faces, it distorts the shape. I am also unable to emboss the text on the revolved dome and get an error.

A better spline may be the best way forward.
