Help modeling a helical blade with tubercles leading edge (Wind turbine)

Hi,

I've been scratching my head on how to model a helical blade with tubercles leading edge for a vertical wind turbine. The helical blade has been designed with the NACA 0018 profile. The question is how to incorporate these tubercles - please see the picture below for better understanding.

P.S. This design was done by a third party.

Thanks

Does the airfoil scale with the waved Leading Edge,

(or is it purely cut, most unlikely)

I would start by trying Sweep with Path TE, and Guide Rail LE.

Might help...

Hi davebYYPCU,

Thanks for the reply. The airfoil blade does not scale. It was just a bad impression the image gave.

What you are suggesting is to draw the blade shape including the tubercles using the 3D sketch tool and then use the sweep tool. Is this what you meant?

Cheers

Hi,

Here is a screencast on how to do it

It's not quite the same shape, but you will get the idea of making it

Regards

My interpretation of the image was that you were looking to sweep the airfoil with a curved twist,

(recent options in Sweep update, that I have not used yet).

It was not clear if you were sweeping a solid airfoil, or a top surface from it.

cutting the solid profile, without scaling the airfoil as it progressed along the Leading Edge, would produce huge amounts of drag.

Will need more details of the shape, seeing your first pic was not so accurate.

So will see what your response to Saeed's video is, taken that he is using 50/50 guess in his example.
