Help ! Invalid crash backup file

Hello,

Fusion 360 just crashed while performing a cut extrude and I had to terminate the application as it was still stuck after a few minutes.

When I restarted, it suggested to retrieve the crash backup but this time it won't work as the backup file seem corrupted, I get an error message saying the backup file is not a valid zip package 😞

Can a CM help me repare this invalid backup file ? (it is in a folder named with random letters and numbers and where there are also a few other small files)

Alternatively how can I access the last autosave ?

Still need some help.

I tried to fix the backup file with some zip repair utilities but now fusion 360 doesn't even suggest to use the crash backup and directly load the last saved version from several hours ago...

How can I force it to try to load the crash backup again ? Is it related to the crashcount value in CEROption.xml ?

Also I have autosave set to 5min, so are there some other save backup files somewhere or the protection relies on this unique crashbackup file that is now corrupted ?

I hope not, would lose several hours of work if this was the only backup and that would be really poor protection if a crash backup would overwrite the normal 5min backup.

I have attached DiagnosticLogs related to this issue.

I have had a look at the logs, the crash that made a corrupted backup file seem to happen at timestamp 20160831T111221 with the Bad FACE for faceting!! error.

Then in the next log file there are logs about the corrupted backup file: ***/Roaming/Autodesk/Autodesk Fusion 360/***/CrashRecovery/8e521aa8eebc472bb89c402f8726344d.backup is not a valid zip package.

At timestamp 20160831T123346 I had this other error as I was trying to load a repaired version of the backup file: ***/CrashRecovery/8e521aa8eebc472bb89c402f8726344d.backup could not be opened. It is probably locked by another program.

After that fusion360 doesn't offer to try to load the crash backup and just load the last valid older version.

Also in the file menu the "recover documents" shows 0, so I even cannot try to manually force the loading of the backup file.

The backup files are still in the folder they were (and I have a backup of this backup folder, made before my attemps to fix the corrupted file) and I cannot figure what changed that prevents trying to load the crash backup and loads a previous version instead.

Analyzed the corrupted backup with zip2fix and it tells me only 8 of 357 files are valid, the rest is corrupted...

I guess I'll have to redo the work from the older valid version 😕

Please autodesk change this backup system to separate the crash backup from the normal backup so the crash backup doesn't overwrite the normal backup !

If that was the case I'd have been able to load a backup from 5min ago instead of 1 hour ago 😕

Hi @Anonymous,

I am sorry I did not see this sooner! I am here to help though! Just to check - when you go into the File menu, do you then see "Recover Documents" tab? Is the recovery file in there and is it still having some issues trying to load? Edit: Just realized you said you tried this already. If so, can you please send me your entire diagnostic log folder to james.youmatz@autodesk.com. To do this - open Fusion 360, go to the help menu and select "Diagnostic Log Files". This will collect them in a zip file and just send those over to me in an email. These should give us a good clue as to what is happening.

Regarding the file however - what is the file name and the last known version number that you were working on?

Thanks,

Hi James,

No worry. I could not lose more time trying to fix this so I have redone the lost work already.

Although I have sent you my whole diag folder to your email and a link where I uploaded the whole corrupted backup folder.

The last thing I tried to fix it was to rename the .backup file to .f3d and opening that but fusion360 gave me this error: "initializing document manifest xml stream failed"
