Help designing candy roller press mold

Hi I am new to Fusion 360 and I am trying to  design a roller press mold but I am struggling to find the command that I can make the cavities with. here is an example I think about it like taking a rectangle with half sphere indentations in it and rolling that rectangle into a cylinder. I tried using the emboss tool but couldn't get the  half sphere cavity to form properly. Is there another command I might have more success with or do i need to work on calculating b splines or something for this?

 

Thanks in advance for the help I hope I provided enough information.

here is my attempt. I am not familiar with using the sheet metal tools. I was trying to make the half spheres after making the roller.

Here is an updated version. I changed the gear to a spline so I can make the gear separately.

Sorry...I wasted about ten minutes, pressed the UNDO button about a hundred times, then moved forward again. So it's a long video. Maybe it will help you with ideas.

Yes I can discover it from the video but I find working the timeline of a model a much easier way of determining how someone was thinking when they created a model.

Its really close. I should have thought about it a bit more before clicking because now that I am thinking about it a bit harder the half sphere that is in the roller on the solution I

accepted isn't a complete half sphere. it could get close with a bigger radius but would never be complete I hope there is a better way to do this it sounds like you have an idea.

Here is a rough example using sheet metal. The spacing would have to be worked out better to suit. You can change the K factor of the sheet metal to get different shapes of the sphere to actually produce a sphere. I went with a K factor of .85 meaning the center of the bend line is 85 percent from the bottom. That gives a sphere that is slightly oval in the direction of rotation which I think is what is needed. I would 3d print a sample and try making a sphere with clay. You can also adjust the sketch for the cylinder to get the ends closer and fitting the layout.

I believe that @chrisplyler has the location of the sphere center correct which is on the radius edge of the cylinder.  I have laid out a working model one with the cutout in this arrangement and one with the diametrical bisector of the cutout on the radius edge of the cylinder.  With this live model you can see both have the disadvantage of being open on both side during rotation allowing the contents to possibly squeeze out but the one with the sphere center on the radius edge of the cylinder will give the best spherical shape.  Both layouts have motion links so you can drag them to check out the shapes and gaps.  Model is attached.

Well... it isn't a half-sphere removed from the cylinder, of course, because the face of a cylinder is curved.

 

But...if the half-sphere is centered tangent on the face of the sphere, and that cylinder is rolled against another like cylinder, the resulting candy would be a sphere. It's a spherical mold that just doesn't close all the way around at any one time.
