Half and quarter and eighth "midway" points

If I make a rectangle, I can select the midpoints of each side to divide the shape evenly in half. I would like to then select the midpoint of each half, effectively a quarter of the original. And then an eighth, ad nauseum. 

I know I can make a new rectangle from the midpoint to the edge again and again, but that gets clumsy and depending on how many divisions I want, it adds a lot of data to the sketch I have to delete later if I don't want a bunch of unnecessary lines.

Is this possible, or do I just have to use the rectangle repeated method?

the effect can be achieved, but not in the way you would like. and i agree, multiple lines laid on top of each other is not only messy, it can confuse the sketch solver and cause issues.

multiple line segments, all set to be equal to each other is one of several ways you might do this.-

I agree with @g-andresen patterns are the way to go.  I have a dedicated point pattern component that can be used on any linear sketch.  The video will show how.  I have attached the component if you are interested.
