graphic issues with almost brand new Macbook Pro M3

Hi!

I'm unfortunately having some strange graphics issues with Fusion on an almost brand new Macbook Pro M3 with integrated GPU. Does anyone have any advice?

_ the mouse is often not displayed as a standard selection arrow, but as a double arrow, or more offen as a black and white ‘centre of mass’ which is very annoying

_ the timeline freezes and shows random content

_ the file panel freezes and shows random content
_ the browser tree also appears in other programmes

_ the entire Fusion window moves 1 cm to the left when I open the file panel

Thanks for your help

I haven't had the best experienced with Fusion on M3 Mac ether. Not as bad as what you are describing but not nearly as reliable as it is on windows. Hopefully it improves going forward! I still have to use a windows machine for CAD but I really don't want to.

Thanks for letting us know. These experiences are not being reported to product support or other places on the forum, so perhaps if others are having exactly the same problems you mention they will comment here.

Let's take care of basics first.

What build are you running? Look on the ?Help menu > About dialog. Should be listed as "Fusion 2.0.[build number]"

When was the last time you restarted the computer?

Hi!
@phil:
_ I added some screenshots to clarify my software build no. and the graphic issues from yesterday...
_ I try to restart my Mac every day, which was my first measure, which I felt was only necessary because of the problems with Fusion...

Has anyone already had general graphic problems with the M3 in Fusion and possibly with what measures?

Can you please check user Preferences > Graphics Driver?
Is there a choice to use OpenGL?

Unfortunately, I don't know what to do with this information, Phil.
I work on a Macbook Pro with an M3 Pro chip and integrated GPU. I don't know whether it supports OpenGL. Apple also cancelled the implementation of OpenGL in macOS back in 2018. I use Sonoma 14.6.1.
Or is it possible to switch on the use of OpenGL in Fusion?

Does Fusion really have problems with the internal GPU of the M3 chip? However, this high-end chip has been around for almost a year now...

I have seen no complaints about your hardware and graphics issue. As you say, it's been a year that your GPU has been out, so thousands of Fusion users are using hardware just like yours.

I'm sorry I should have shown you where user preferences is located.

First go to the preferences dialog box

Then look on the default tab, near the top, for graphics driver choices.

@phil: Thanks for this hint, I was looking for this setting with my logic 😉 in the graphics submenu. Instead it is listed in »general settings«...
Unfortunately, error #5 (the entire Fusion window moves 1 cm to the left when I open the file panel) occurred immediately on the first start after activating OpenGL + restart...

I found this post on reddit that doesn't give me much hope...

From your response, I can't tell how much OpenGL did to solve the issues you list. Is this now the only problem you see?

Can you please make a video showing this so I can log a ticket for it?

@Phil.E : I don't want to publish a video here, but I am attaching three screenshots that show the phenomenon when I want to open the file panel. The window only returns to its original position after double-clicking on the header.
I would like to observe a possible effect of the OpenGL activation on the much more serious problems in the coming days.

Hi,  I'm also experiencing similar issues after picking up a MacBook M3 Max and saw this thread.

I'm on Fusion 2.0.20256 and macOS 14.4 (23E214) on Mac15,10

When working in Fusion, seems to be some sort of rendering/graphics issue.  When trying to make a  sketch, the cursor does not visibly show/highlight what plane is being selected when left clicking.  The cursor also doesn't change when trying to snap to a point or highlight a sketch.  For example, if I wanted to create a simple circle at the center of the sketch,  I have to "guess" where to drop the center point.  Also, fusion doesn't "draw" the sketch after a left mouse click, and I have to hold down the left mouse button to see it on the screen.  After placing a sketch, The cursor also does not highlight anything (for example, if I wanted to place a dimension).

The features seem to be there, and I've toggled the Graphics from "auto" to "open gl", but doesn't seem to make any difference. When I run Fusion from my older windows machine, there is no issue.

As with AWR5015, activating »OpenGL« did not bring the hoped-for improvements for me either. See current screenshot attached. Much more serious is - similar to the descriptions of AWR5015 - the error #1 (see above) of which I am unfortunately not able to create screenshots.
As I am unfortunately dependent on Fusion, I hope that these problems will be solved quickly.

I logged this ticket for the forum report: FUS-172997

However, please mention it to the customer support agent when you file a ticket. I see you are a paying customer, so one thing that will really help get this fixed for all customers like you would be to contact support.

In the image with the random graphics circled over the timeline, does that happen when Fusion is first opened?

@Phil.E: I can't say, but I'm observing it now
However, I have the impression that this error has not occurred recently.
Yesterday Fusion surprised me with a creative display of the folder icons in the file panel... 😉

From what I can gather in this thread, the graphics distortion is not happening 100% of the time.

As soon as we can identify the triggers: such as steps taken that lead to distortion, and or specific hardware issues, then we can set about trying to reproduce this in a debugger.

Until we can reliably reproduce this effect, there is literally zero chance we can debug it. I'm asking questions to try to narrow down the method to reliably reproduce this in a mac computer that does not currently reproduce the problem.

I have been noticing random graphics issues in chrome on a mac m3 pro that happens sporadically. When switching to a tab sometimes (ie few times a week out of 50 hours of use) the screen will start flickering. Took it to apple they have replaced everything...yet same issue since the start of this computer. when i transfer to a macbook m4 pro as a temp computer, issues never happen.  I think this could be a flaw in the hardware that is not documented as I am seeing this being described in multiple scenarios that are most likely activating the gpu and loading something into a cache making it hard to repeat.
