Good program for making nice SVG files?

Hi There!

I'm currently using Inkscape to convert images to SVG, to use in fusion, but I'm finding the these SVG files don't always work well. I've tried to save the files in Inkscape  using all of the types of SVG formats. Some times they work other times they don't. Also have tried using Photoshop, but it doesn't appear to be able to save to a format that fusion can use. My goal is to be able to bring in a SVG and be able to scale, offset outer edges and extrude.

Can someone recommend a program that will do a nice job of converting images to SVG format, preferably free or inexpensive?

please see the attached file, you will see one of the circles near the top is not selectable and when I try to offset the outer edge outward, it get distorted.

Thanks

Glen

Hi Glen,

With me, there are no mistakes like you described.
The imperfections should be removed in the original application, but they can also be made in the fusion.
Basically, any SVG import from any application or conversion is a wonder bag. It can be good, but it can also be completely off.
Not for nothing is SVG a format that CAD users especially "love".

Hi gunther,

Thanks for responding!

I'm finding your message a bit cryptic, not totally understanding what I'm supposed to do to solve my problem?

Thanks

He means SVG frequently import into fusion as garbage.  Whether because they are created badly by the originating program, or because fusion mangles them, or a bit of both.   It's a good idea to avoid when possible.  NEVER try and do any surfacing with them.

Even simple curves in svg format can be ugly 😀  Use the Curvature comb to check the quality.  Here's a small sample at the lower part of the s:

Once you have an svg imported into Fusion 360, it's quite easy to use the Control Point Spline tool to recreate the curves (Hint: fewer control points are better.  I used one too many in the screencast.)

Here's the Curvature comb for the spline:

The Curvature comb is interactive, so you can use it while you're dragging the control points around.

etfrench,

thanks for taking the time to make that sample.

I'm a bit confused. what you showed I'm assuming is only part of the repair to the wonky "S"?  To completely fix the "S", I would also have to recreate the rest of the curvatures of the "S" to close it off IE: work my way around the entire "S"?

Is my assumption  correct?

Correct.  Although it may seem like a lot, it will go quickly when you get used to it.  I don't use it very often, so I'm still a bit slow.
