Generating face groups on a Mesh

I have a job that requires some Meshes to be converted to T-Splines. Everything was going well, but now I can not Generate face Groups. While some of my Meshes were very completed, I tried on a box. There is no color change, and nothing became selectable. I tried it on a Windows machine where Fusion had not updated in a while, and it still didn't work : )

I'm I messing up? Screenshot 2023-07-20 at 12.59.25 PM (2).png

Facegroups do not help you to convert triangulated mesh geometry into T-Splines.

Also, the underlying geometry initially was a prismatic solid body. You can only convert this to T-Spline geometry face-by-face.

If you can explain what your end goal is I can probably provide better feedback and a way forward.

@bmxjeff

I do not see a mesh body in the image?

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

Thanks for your reply.

In the example below, I was previously able to Generate Face Groups and easily remove the faces behind the horse and convert the horse to a T-Spline. Now, I am not able to follow the same work flow. Is it just me, or has something changed?  Is there a setting that would cause this? Or do I need to reinstall Fusion? It use to change to Pink, and blue, and green... Now nothing. And this is a project we did before.

I am in the middle of a reverse engineering project that requires modeling from scanned data and converting Z-Brush meshes to T-Spines for injection molded components.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I don't know when you completed that project, but the mesh workspace has undergone quite some changes. E.g. is it has a timeline now.

I personally would not use Fusion 360 to separate organic mesh structures from a surrounding mesh body. I'd use either Autodesk Meshmixer, or Blender.

The resulting triangulated mesh I would the convert into a quad-mesh - a prerequisite for T-Splines - using InstantMeshes.

Z-Brush has an industry leading quad-remesher BTW.

If you have to do this in Fusion 360 Let's use the coin with the horse as an example. You'll frst have to create "clean" face groups. then you'll have to "Separate" all the face groups and then you can remove (not delete) the ones you don't need.

To then convert he organic mesh into a T-Spline you'd use the "Organic" tools setting in the conversion tool.

I created this tutorial below a few years ago outlining some workflows using InstantMeshes:

Thanks! I'm going to take a closer looks that this.

However, you're getting those fancy colors on the surfaces. I use to get colors : ) And, now I am not. That answers some of my questions. I might need to reinstall. Because I am unable to Generate Face Groups and you can on my sample part.  The Date was in the last image I sent. It was last month. Something has changed between now and then on my end.

That's what I needed to know. I've tried the Insider edition, and the standard Fusion edition with the same results.

Fusion has been handling Meshes great until now.  I'll reinstall and go through your tutorial. I'd hate to change up my workflow on the last part : (

😔Well... That's it. That option also make the face groups selectable. Who knew... Not me
