GCode Z Axis does not retract

Workbee 1050

Material: MDF

Fusion 360

I am trying my very first GCode test. It is a simple 12mm deep 16mm hole. It does the hole ok but the router does not move up out of the hole, it actually drags across the MDF at -12mm deep back to the 0,0 position. Are there any settings in Fusion 360 that I am missing? Do I need to somehow manually tell the gcode to pull up?

thanks

You'll need to provide your Fusion 360 file.  File/Export/Archive file *.f3d and attach the file to the thread.

I don't have an Openbuilds post processor so I downloaded this one

When creating a 2d pocket, the usual process is to select the bottom of the pocket instead of the top.  Your stock is set to be 1mm higher than the model and  your 'Stock to Leave' is set to .5mm.  This means you will only cut a pocket .5mm deep in the stock and this will still be .5mm above your model.

There is no move after the pocket is cut, so I'm not sure how to understand  your first post where the tool is moving through the MDF.  You did touch off on the top of the stock?

I've attached the file with a 2d pocket with settings I usually use.  Use the 'Compare and Edit' command to view both your pocket and mine.

Run the simulator for both pockets. Best practice is to always run the simulator before creating the gcode.

p.s. There is a spelling error in both of the gcode files which doesn't leave a warm fuzzy feeling about the quality 🙂

p.s.p.s. My settings are what I usually use for aluminum, so the depth of cut is smaller than needed for MDF.
