Fusion Design Mode: Sketch showing inch dimensions even though Doc Settings is mm

This is an odd one. My Document Settings is set to mm, g. Under my User Preferences, my Default Units for new Designs are mm, g

I recently made a separate design where I changed the Document Settings units to in,oz. Only for that specific design.

I'm going back into an old design with the mm, g settings and whenever I highlight a dimension or go to edit the dimension it is displaying inch units.

How the heck do I get this to show the actual document settings units?

Screenshot below showing this:, d87 was specified as 1.270mm but when I highlight or go to edit it shows 0.05 inch

Updates: Tried clearing cache data under Help > Diagnostics. Didn't fix the issue. Tried updating Doc Settings units from mm to cm, still shows inch dimensions when editing dims. Tried changing Doc Settings units from mm to inch, shows inch dims when editing. Tried changing Doc Settings from inch back to mm and it still shows inch dims when editing.

What in the everloving heck?

Additional note, when creating new features and dimensioning them, units are in mm as expected. When going to edit dimensions, the prompt shows the correct document units (mm) as well. Only the old dimensions from the previous versions of the design show incorrect units (inches).

Hi,

While I cannot explain this behaviour, I can tell you that under the bonnet (hood for Americans)

Fusion uses mm for ALL calculations. Fusion will also allow you to mix measurements. It is possible

to have document settings set as mm but input 1' 6" and it will convert and vice versa.

I might suggest that unless this is an actual bug that it is more likely going to be a preference

setting and not a document setting. Have a look in Preferences.

Cheers

Andrew

@dstinson07

Did you yourself and only you create the old dimensions?

Or has someone else worked on this geometry?

Hi! The behavior does not sound right to me. Have you tried Modify -> Compute All?

Many thanks!

@Drewpan at first read last night I was quick to write off your reply. I realized this morning that it's the key to my issue. I looked at the Parameters screen again and saw the "Expression" (i.e. - how I input the dimension) and the "Value" (dimension stored as mm).

If I go in to edit d87 (the example in original post) and re-enter it as 1.270, Fusion updates the Expression as a mm dimension. This was an old design I had re-created off of imperial (inch) prints. Rather than do a manual metric conversion I believe I input all the dimensions with "inch" units.

Lesson of the day: taking notes / leaving breadcrumbs in the design notes may alleviate future headaches.

Thanks all!
