Fusion crashes when closing drawings

Anonymous
Not applicable

My Fusion 360 crashes most times when I close a drawing. It does not seem to matter whether the drawing has been modified or not.

Is there a fix for this?

I am running:

  • Fusion 2.0.2604
  • MacOS 10.12.2.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi,

Thanks for posting this and thanks for sending in those CER reports with your email and good descriptions!! Those really help.

In this case I can see you are crashing mainly in two buckets:

1. The drawing bucket. We don't know much about this one so sorry it may continue for a while. Be sure to save before closing drawings. I can ask for a deeper investigation because of your CER reports. Do you mind if we contact you via email for more details about your system/drawings?

(internal reference FUS-26047)

2. The crash on start bucket: This one we know more about. It is seen when you are logged into Fusion, but don't open the app for a long time. You only crashed a couple times here, but again, thanks for the CER reports they are helping define problem which leads to a solution more quickly. I would suggest for now logging out of Fusion if you aren't going to use Fusion for a few days.

Thanks,

Thanks, Phil, for the quick answer!

I am indeed concerned mostly with the crash-on-close issue. As you mentioned, the crash-on-start issue only occurred a couple of times, so I am not desperate 🙂

On the crash-on-close, I tried to close one drawing tab among several using cmd-W. It closed correctly. When I did It the second time for the next tab, Fusion crashed.

What might be related is that sometimes it is not possible to go from one tab to (some) others by clicking on it, not even to save the work. It is still possible to switch using cmd-`, but it is nonetheless a sign that Fusion will crash not long after.

Thanks for the additional details. I just got an update on the issue from the drawings team and they are now looking closer, so this will help their investigation.

Another observation: if I wait for a long time, say, 10 minutes, the crash does not happen. If I close the drawing earlier, the crash happens.

In either case, I always made sure that the sync was complete before closing.

Thanks for the good advice. That will help other customers for sure.

I see in our system that the drawings team has fixed the bug and expects the fix to be in the January 18 update. Please let us know how it goes after that.

Thanks Phil, we do have plans to address this in the upcoming release.

Thomas,

I tested around the current bug and it looks like the crash is indeed specific to Command+W in an unsaved drawing.  The wait which eliminated the issue is likely long enough that an auto-save kicked in.  Short of saving the file, the easiest workaround until this is fixed is to just click the X on the drawing tab to close.

Thanks again for reporting this issue!

This also happens to me on windows 10, however, it happens every time I close Fusion 360, not individual projects. I've sent several reports, and I hope it helps.

@iisreyes

Your crash is different. Good news! This one is also known and is currently fixed, but action is required on your side.

You are crashing because one or more of the addins you have loaded has syntax errors in the code. Thanks for sending in those CER reports! You need to replace the problem addins with the new fixed versions of the addins.

Details:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/api-and-scripts/crash-fixed-new-app-versions-available/td-p/6780669

A small request for you:

  • We really need to know if you are not using one or both of the addins listed.
  • Please let us know if your crash is solved by this advice.

Thanks,

Sorry to throw in a wrench: it happens as much when clicking the X as when closing with Cmd-W.

Thanks for getting on top of this so quickly!

Hi Thomas,
That is interesting. If you have a moment would you mind reproducing both, Cmd+W as well as X, send in both error reports, and let me know the CER_ number that comes up in the Thank you page? I'd like to take a look & compare the two.

We'll get it straightened out.

Thanks,
Chris

OK, finally had a chance to test this. I think you are right about the cmd-W.

I closed drawings 5 times by clicking the X and everything was good. When pushing cmd-W, Fusion crashed the first time

Hope that helps.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for letting us know.  The general crash on file close problem was fixed,, but there was one last "flavor" of the bug which we couldn't get out in time, that was when using Command+W to close a drawing if it was the only document open (no other drawings or designs open).  We identified the problem and have a fix in hand for the next update.

Thanks,
Chris
