Fusion causes Mac to lose wireless keyboard strokes

I'm having an intermittent wierd problem:

Fusion 360 (March 14 version) occasionally (once per day) causes the keyboard to stop accepting alpha numerical inupt.  Not just within Fusion but system-wide.  some of the command keys (command-tab, and escfor example) still work. Mouse and other input seem ok.

Rebooting does not solve the problem. Logging in/out does.

Anyone else have this problem?  It is not fatal but itis pretty inconvenient to interrupt my work, save, log out and back in everytime it happens.  I was hoping the latest F360 release would fix this.

Perhaps it is a hardware issue with the keyboard? Loose or bad batteries, bad connection perhaps? Do you have another keyboard to test with? This might help determine if its software or hardware related.

These folk were able to get the number pad to work again by using a USB hub into the mix.

I hope that helps.

Thanks,

Hi Nathan,

I think I've eliminated any issues with a specific keyboard (new batteries, trying different wireless keyboards, deleting keyboard .plist files, plugging/unplugging USB devices etc). Fusion360 seems to alter some keyboard setting file that gets reset on a logout-login (but not on a restart), but I cannot track it down. Only the keys show in System Preferences > Keyboard>Input Sources are affected

The problem is Fusion360-specific. I thought originally it was screencast, but uninstalling did not resolve the problem.

thanks,

jamie

Odd - however I noticed that copy and paste Command C + V often does not work. But also sometimes Alt Command B + V + C works or fails to work. I think there is internally something wrong in the Fusion code because no other application has that problem.

I haven't seen or heard much about this particular issue (aside from Claas's Copy and Paste issue). I stronlgy it suspect it is something specific to the environment. This might be a stretch, but perhaps this issue is related to outdated firmware. Some updates will not install automatically on Intel based macs. See the link below for more information.

Could you verify the latest firmware version is installed on the computer?

One other thought is the it is related to Mouse Keys? Do you find when the number pad stops functioning that you can control the cursor with the number pad? Perhaps you are enabling this option?

Also, if you have a wacom tablet or a space mouse, could you try disabling any of these process via the activity monitor? Perhaps there is a conflict between Fusion and another specific application.

I hope this helps. Please let me know,  either way. I happy to keep digging!

Thanks,

I posted the data here in reference for my copy and paste bugs.

Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
Boot ROM Version: MP31.006C.B05
SMC Version (system): 1.25f4

However this also we saw on Windows on a student laptop 2 semester ago and on the iMacs in the computer lab - iMacs are recent, and on my old 2008 iMac.

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for the suggestions.  Here are some further details.

• I have the latest firmware (iMac Retina 5k).

• I don't have Mouse Keys enabled. I use a space mouse, but unplugging it once the problem occurs does not restore keyboard function.

• I don't have any other USB devices connected.  Wireless devices are the keyboard, mouse, and trackpad.

• I use MagicPrefs to emulate a middle button on the Magic mouse, but disabling or uninstalling it does not restore full keyboard function, and I expereinced this problem prior to installing MagicPrefs initially.  • Once the keyboard keys stop functioning, they no longer function in any other application.  Mouse and trackpad work fine. Forgetting the keyboard and reinitializing it does not bring the keystrokes back.

The problem is hard to troubleshoot because I do not know what triggers it (other than running Fusion 360).
