Fusion 360 vs Inventor

Hi,

I need some kind of an feature comparison overview for my friends and FabLab guests to convince them to work with Fusion 360 insted of other overblown CAD bundles like Inventor, SolidWorks, Catia, etc. 😉

I know, that these programs are really good for professionals but our target group are beginners, students and people who are looing for an intuitive, immediate CAD/CAM solution. That's why I love Fusion 360 so much. ❤️

Until now, I wasn't able to convince my dear boss 😄

He is a Pro at Catia and Inventor.

Are there any comparison screencasts, whitepapers, lists, etc.?

Hi Markus,

Fair question!  We get asked time and again for feature-to-feature comparisons. We don’t maintain one. While it’s a well-intentioned question, we often find the types of data collected in them doesn’t end up being helpful. They either end up being too mundanely detailed to navigate, too abstract to be helpful, or too biased to believe. Would you be at all surprised (or persuaded) if I gave you a feature matrix showing us destroying our competition? I wouldn’t. 🙂

We stack up great, but what does FabLab actually need? Let’s just get you that.

Not to be presumptuous but for FabLab I’m pretty excited about Fusion 360’s:

  • Embedded CAD/CAM experience
  • DXF output for laser cutting
  • In-application “send to 3D print” utility
  • 100% free for enthusiasts, students, hobbyists and start ups

We’ve got a great full list of what we do here:

Aside from a matrix, what can I do to help? Let's get you guys started.

Very Best,

Mike
