Fusion 360 Issues, Highly recomanded not to use it for professional use

Dear Sir,

I have used solidworks for last 3 years & I have good hands on CAD. While I have started using fusion from last one year & it's becoming very tough to work on fusion, since everytime I work on it, some new issue comes out &  it takes a lot of time & efforts to resolve it.

Some of the issues I am listing here,

1. Initialization error (recent one): I can't move objects, can't resize them. fusion shows initialization error but doesn't tell us whats causing it & how to solve it.

2. Fusion becomes very slow, hangs & crashes: I work on critical components & assemblies. Fusion runs with snails speed when the number of features starts increasing especially pattern feature & it suddenly crashes down.

3. Fusion doesn't open sometimes at all. Just a white screen pops us with fusion name & then software crashes after that.

4.Joints: This command doesn't work sometimes. Suddenly this command stops working. Also sometimes when you copy & paste subassembly from another file to joint given in the assembly disappears

5. Sheetmetal related: "Convert to sheet metal from solid part option" isn't available in fusion which is very essential basic feature. You can't make critical sheetmetal parts without that command.

6. Drawing related:

i) When you import base view of the assembly in drawing, some of the parts get automatically suppressed. I need to go and unsuppress those parts individually. I can't do it for bigger assemblies.

ii) Projected view disappears suddenly & only dimension lines remain in the view. We need to replace the view & dimensions.

iii) One can't change sheet size after placing views.

7. Many time one can't name or rename parts in fusions. Renaming stops working completely sometimes.

8. Similar issues have been observed in fusion online forum & I did not get satisfactory answers from there.

9. As per my experience fusion is for basic level CAD modelling. I'll definately not recomand it for professional use.

However I'll be very happy if I get list of 5 companies in India, which are using fusion for professionals use, e.g. list companies who works extensively on sheet metal & drawings & they are happy with fusion360.

All these issues are time-consuming & affect projects badly. We can't send our files to you since it is confidential data and these are common issues which are faced by my other teammates who are using fusion360.

So I kindly request you to look into the issues & try to resolve them as early as possible.

I kindly request you to look into the matter & solve them as early as possible.

yes I have experience many issues when modeling, bugs, unfortunatly I could not make a list of bugs, but some simple things could not be made and you have to make a work around, this didn´t happened to me in Autocad. This bugs can only be seen in the daily work.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for spending the time to list out the issues you're having. I'll try to address a few of them here. The rest will likely be addressed by the other knowledgeable folks on the forum. However, for better results, it is best to create separate forum posts for each issue. It'll be difficult (and confusing) to address them all in one post.

For most of the issues you've mentioned, we'll need the diagnostic log files to debug them. Could you please send us the log files? You can gather them up by going to the Help button on the top-right, "Support and Diagnostics" and click "Diagnostic log files".

It looks like some of the troubles you're having are during Fusion startup (you mentioned "Initialization errors, Fusion doesn't open sometimes, white screen, etc). Have you tried re-installing Fusion? I can't say if that'll fix the issues you're seeing, but that's usually the first thing to try. Again, the diagnostic files I mentioned above will be necessary to figure out the exact problem.

I tried searching for crash reports coming from your userid 'tusharp', but couldn't find any. Can you please pm me the email id you're using when submitting any crash reports?

Here's some comments on the issues you mentioned in your "offline insert or upload.png" file.

  • Yes, it is possible to use the insert command in Offline mode. You just need to expand the Side panel on the left side of Fusion, right-mouse on the file you want to insert, and run the "Insert into Current Design" command. Note that you can only insert those files that are currently cached on your local disk. They would already be cached if you'd opened them recently (when you were online). You can also right-mouse-button on any file or folder and run "Add to Offline cache" to cache it locally - this is again possible only when you're online
  • The Upload command is NOT supported in Offline mode

Thx and regards

It can be frustrating when things don't work as you'd expect them to, and I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble.

While I'm not dismissing your challenges, I can assure you that there are a great many folks using Fusion successfully in a professional environment. Our whole team is running Fusion on Dell workstations with Windows 10. We push it hard, and I admit that we sometimes crash something, but it is definitely the exception, not the rule.

Re: crashes, white screens, and initialization errors (#1,2,3): the best thing you can do is to submit crash reports, and supply your Diagnostic files to help AD folks try to track down the issues at hand. They're normally very good at this, if you work with them.

Re: assembly performance (#2)- There are plenty of us out here who have pushed Fusion hard on the assembly performance front. It does have finite capabilities, but if you understand what they are, there are often strategies to get the job done - usually involving careful use of subcomponents, joints, and feature details. It would be far more effective if you offer what it is you're trying to do, and we could help you solve it. It is *possible* that you're asking the program to do something it just isn't great at. Fusion is not Solidworks or Inventor. I can carry a lot of things in my Subaru Outback, but if I expect it to carry as much as my big dump truck, I will be quickly disappointed.

Re: joints (#4) : We've found joints to be very usable. As far as copying and pasting from another assembly, I'm not sure how a joint would also be copied in, if I'm reading your question correctly.

Re: sheet metal (#5): I confess that we do most of our sheet metal in Inventor, as the toolset is more mature. Fusion's SM tools are still evolving. I would say that if sheet metal is one of your core modeling needs in a production environment, then Fusion might not be the strongest choice. The tools are promising, but as you show in your picture, these are all cases where we know how to get it done in Inventor, but wouldn't expect it of Fusion just yet. All of the items you show in your picture are valid feature requests and have been submitted as IdeaStation entries.

Re: Drawings (#6):

i) Suppressed components: we've not experienced this, but I can see what you mean from the picture. Just curious... do your designers work solo? Or using Fusion Team?

ii) projected view disappears: again, we've not seen this.

iii) can't change the sheet size. Not sure what to say there other than it works fine in our shop. Place a view, go to Sheet Settings icon at the bottom of the workspace, select Sheet Size, and change it.

Re: Renaming (#7): a screencast would help. Again, we've not seen this.

Re: Similar issues (#8): similar to........?

Re: Professional use (#9): in my experience, before we implement a new tool in a production environment, we go through a pretty extensive evaluation/due diligence process to make sure that a) the tool does what we need and b) it's the best choice among available options. We wouldn't make a critical business-level commitment without doing that first. We've evaluated many tools, and found some to be very capable, just not what we needed. If the particular strengths of a package don't line up with our needs, well...... we probably wouldn't choose to go that route 🙂  Just curious - why did you switch from Solidworks?

Re: Offline insert, upload, joints:

- insert : i believe has already been addressed. It works as long as it's cached locally

- upload : how exactly should this work?

- disappearing joints : it almost sounds like the joints that you're placing might be at the wrong level? I'm guessing without an example
