Fusion 360 - Can I override the mass of an object?

Easy question

Lets say I have a motor that I dont want to spend hours painstakingly modeling perfectly to use it in an assembly, in solidworks I could draw the outside of the motor, select the component, and set its mass to a given value, now I may get weird simulation results, but it works for calculating the total assembly mass (what I care about)

now in fusion360, it /appears/ the only way I can do this is to get the volumn of the body, then calculate out what its density should be, then apply a custom material to it, kind of a pain in the butt, and it fills my materials page with tons of useless materials.

So long story short, is there a way of straight overriding the mass of a component without going through all those steps?

Today, no, there is no way to override the mass properties on a component.

I checked, and today, there is no idea station entry for this.  Please feel free to create one here

Yeah I mentioned that in the 2nd paragraph, you can get around the problem, but it would be nice to not have the problem 🙂

Still not possible in 2022 😞

You can do this in Autodesk Inventor Professional (years ago - before Fusion even existed).

Maybe the Fusion developers should walk across the hall and ask their teammates how it is done.

Yeah, I used to use SolidWorks in university and this was a standard feature. It is pretty useful when you do a lot of aeronautical work and have to calculate CGs.

I found this script that can be used as a workaround, not ideal but easier than doing it yourself every time.

This should be implemented in Fusion.

Because in Solidworks I can just create a rectangular part and assign it the weight I want rather than having to model it.

This comes very handy when you  need a rough C.G. of a Part/Assembly but don't have time/Skill to create the design.

Thanks and Regards,

Does the idea forum still work? Maybe we should make a new post about it

Seems to be archived. Now there is  a "Feedback forum" but it does not let me post there 😞

If anyone happens to know how to contact a developer, it'd be nice if they could ask if this feature is under consideration. It would really help a lot with CG-sensitive work.

"under consideration":  yes.  On any immediate roadmap: no, not that I am aware of.  It is a valid requirement, but, because there is a workaround (custom material with a custom density), I suspect it is pretty far down the priority list.
