Fusion 360 Basics Tutorial (August 2019)

Hi,

Completely new to CAD, reasonably PC literate but elderly - so be sympathetic!

Bought this book but stuck on page 25 after creating the first diameter dimension of 1.2.   Next step says "create two more diameter dimensins as shown" - when I attempt to do so I get the error message "Adding this dimension will over-constrain the sketch. Choose OK to create a Driven Dimension."

I can't progress any further with the book and I'd appreciate any insights into what is wrong here?

Hi,

A book from 2019 depicts the UI of that time and can lead to irritation, especially for beginners.
Please share* your design and describe which sketch elements are involved.
Then you will surely get hints based on the current UI.

Hi Guenther,

Thanks for the response - really frustrating not being able to progress.   I've attached the file as per your instructions.   One Diameter Dimension applied - but the two others give the error message as before.

Any insight much appreciated.

There is nothing wrong with the method you dimensioned the sketch.  I can only guess what the tutorial you are using wanted you to do but in the Screencast I tried to show how you can use two additional diameter dimensions.

John,

Your response greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid I'm giving up with this publication just purchased from Amazon - I've now found other problems which I'm putting down to changes in the application since this book was published.   As an absolute beginner it is going to be a steep learning curve without having to cope with wrong step-by-step instructions !

Thanks again
