We need to calculate / simulate a free fall.

So an object falling from 2m into water (or onto the ground)

We need to know if it will brake or stay alive. Ans what forces it will get.

any ideas if fusion can handle that?

thx

The MES (mechanical event simulation) is perfect for drop tests!

The thing to keep in mind is that MES is not so great at long term simulations - instead it works best on short durations. So what really works best is to give the object its anticipated position and velocity *just* before impact (as opposed to holding it way above the part and letting it fall all the way).

Also, water is tricky when it comes to dropping stuff in it (even for high-end CFD packages). Fusion's MES will do great for solid impacts but doesn't have the needed physics to simulate a water landing.

There is a pretty great YouTube video of a Christmas ornament crashing into the floor done by some Autodesk marketing guys last year... it's worth checking out!
