Frame selection?

I'm wondering if there is a Maya-style Frame Selected / Zoom to extents option. It kind of drives me crazy having to manually frame my working part.

Hi, David,

Have you tried using the named views feature?  (If this isn't what you were talking about, just let me know).

It allows you to save a zoom/angle of the view and you can return to it any time.

Whenever you've got your view where you want it, right-click the "named views" folder at the top of the browser, and select "New Named View."  It'll show up in that folder, and whenever you click on a named view, it will bring to the camera to that position.  Once it's made, you can name the view by clicking twice on it (as opposed to double-clicking).

Is this what you were asking for?  If not just let me know and we'll figure out what you need.

Thanks!
Tanner

PS - just in case you were talking about zooming to fit everything in the frame, there's a button on the navigation toolbar that will zoom to fit.  It'll bring the everything that's visible to within the window so you can see it all.

I don't generally go to the exact same spot so it's not a solution, unfortunately. For instance, I just spent an hour selecting and extruding some faces on a bunch of different components and want to work this way, like I would in Maya:

The zoom to window command on the right click menu will allow you to center and zoom to a face selection. Below is an Autodesk Screencast that shows how this feature works.

Does this help? Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

ya, that's great. Thanks. It would be great if there was a hotkey for that. Is it possible to script that with Python?

Would love a hotkey editor and add all different actions. But "RMB > Find in Window" works for now, I guess. 🙂

Sorry for the necro, but I wanted to add my +1 to having hotkeys for the Find in Window/Timeline/Browser commands. It would really improve usability, as looking around is the primary interaction with anything.

Cheers
