Forming surface bounded by projected trimmed sketch

I am attempting to form a surface area that is defined by a sketch that has been projected on a cylindrical surface.  Ultmately this would be a cylindrical solid with an indentation that i can form.  I have attached a file that is a cylindrical surface that has been trimmed by a projection of a circle on the cylinder.  Is there any way to modify the shape of what surface is left without changing the projected curve?

Perhaps this will do.

Thank you for the example Betreff, but is it now possible to alter (form)the shape of the surface created while maintaining the position of the boundary?

You can edit both the rotation surface and the basic sketch of the trimming shape.

Can you provide a visual example of what you are trying to achieve?
