Force thumbnail refresh

HAd a quick question...I have a number of designs in a project where the designs are "red version" "black version" "blue version"...but the thumbnails do not match the color.  Here is what happened:

Created initial design in color X (let's say black).

Then copied that file into multiple designs, naming them red/blue/etc..  Went in and changed color using "change face appearance"...but the thumbnails still have the old color in the data panel.

I have tried rendering some images, and editing the designs a bit...no change in the thumbnails....any ideas on how to get the image preview to update?  NOTE:  The designs are fine, it's just the thumbnail image that is causing mixups.

Thanks!

The thumbnails should update and a quick test of my production build is showing me good results.

Couple questions:

  1. How are you copying the designs?
  2. What do you mean by "change face appearance", where do you find this command?
  3. Does this happen 100% of the time, and for how long?

Thanks,

Phil

Hi Phil,

I think  I may have figured out why Fusion won't update the thumbnails...Fusion thinks they are all clones of the original design.....I have four dice.  One was the "original", and the other copies.  They were copied via right clicking on the data panel inside the product and clicking "copy", and then renaming the copy.  Then, changes were made to the files (they are NOT all the same).

I just tried to create a "pile of dice" by creating a new design, and then "insert into current design" one of the dice.  No problem!  But, when I try to "insert into current design" any of the other dice, here is the message I get (about being unable to import clones):

clone.PNG

But the thing is, they DId start out as the same file, but I subsequently made changes to them, so they are now different.  I don't even know what a clone is!  Thanks!

(indeed, ONE file (the Black Die) has the correct name to color, and the others have the wrong one...the black die was the original, so ti is the three others that are not updating)

That would be the problem. This is a current limitation that is being fixed in the upcoming update. There is metadata in your copy that makes it a clone. This is data that tells the cloud what file it is. Think of it like a name or address. You can paint the house but it's still "765 Main Street" according to Fusion.

And even though we are fixing it soon, I have a different workflow you might like better and this will get you going today.

  1. After you have saved your first dice, right click on the top node in your model browser and pick "Save Copy As".
  2. Give it a new name, pick where you want the file to go.
  3. Open the new file, change colors.
  4. Insert into your master assembly.

Let me know how that goes for you!

Thanks,
