Flatten mesh?

I have a .stl I want to edit. I imported it and turned off design history capture. On the form menu, selecting flatten from the modify drop-down is saying it wants me to select T-Spline Vertices however the model is not selectable. I found some videos where little points highlight on the model when trying to select t-splines however I have been unable to figure out why they are not showing up for me.

I have a feeling there a much simpler way to get done what I am trying to accomplish the way I am trying now so I included a photo of the part I want to edit. Right now it is curved and when 3d printing it, the curved surface needs a lot of finishing. I figure I can print a flattened version of the model with TPU (soft rubber material) so there is nothing to sand and then mount it to the object that's curved because the material is bendable.

How should I flatten this model?

I would remodel the part from scratch.

I don't have the dimensions, I don't know how I would take them off a curved model. Even if I could, there has to be a similar way as the dimensions are all already in the model.

Edit: For anyone looking to solve the problem, I found a solution however I am sure there is an easier way.

Convert to Brep

Unstitch

Select faces on everything but the side you want a profile of and delete them.

Stitch remaining faces

Merge remaining faces

Save singular body to STL

Open Meshmixer

Import stl

Edit / Unwrap

Select the unwrapped object

File Export the stl
