Hey Guys,

Please see the below forum thread which I recently opened in Inventor forums ... Where both in Inventor and Fusion 360 .. There happens to be a file translation Data Loss that is Happening when the model that is created in Solidworks 2017 produces a data loss when opened in Fusion 360...

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/file-translation-error-from-solidworks-2017-to-invento...

Kindly help me to resolve this issue

Regards

Do you have access to the original *.sldprt file so that the feature tree can be examined?

I've looked at both of the files included in this .rar (.sldprt and .X_T) in another CAD app and neither of them exhibit this problem.

In fact a heal operation comes back very clean.

When exported from that application as a STEP file even without running the above heal command

It does not exhibit these surface problems in Fusion 360:

Hi @TrippyLighting

Any idea why is it causing the problem in Fusion 360 and Inventor ?

Based on your modeling experience - do these "tails" look logical to you as representative of the true Design Intent?

Hi @TheCADWhisperer

This is my customer's model ... Also like you say I can't understand the design intent of that surface .. But like @TrippyLighting said that surface must not cause the unwanted surface creation while data conversion ...

Also like I told you in the inventor thread ... I am attaching the same screencast video . Kindly please see the video with the audio output ... Here I have shown you the behavior of the problem to a further extent.

Kindly looking forward for your reply

Did you open the STEP that @TrippyLighting attached above?

Hi @TheCADWhisperer

The step file while @TrippyLighting had attached is not causing any problem ... Also I think the step file originates from some other CAD software which @TrippyLighting is using ...

Any idea why it is causing the problem when the Solidworks file is directly opened in Inventor and Fusion 360 .. Also have you seen the video which I had attached in my previous reply.

The original geometry is rubbish.

Fortunately the geometry is pretty simple.

I would use only for reference in recreating proper geometry from scratch that is 100% robust and predictable.

Hi @TheCADWhisperer @TrippyLighting

I had raised this issue as on 1 on 1 support request with Autodesk and finally this workaround has worked well.

the best workaround to getting it to cleanly import would be to:

  • Import the sldprt into Fusion
  • Export the file as STEP file
  • Reimport the STEP file into Fusion.
  • the problem is solved .

Also @TheCADWhisperer the reason why I was hesitant to tell the customer to recreate the model is because I am actually an Autodesk Reseller and if I tell my customer to recreate the model I will lose the order . So that is why I was looking for some workaround to get it solved

The above workaround was suggested by @ryan.bales . Thankyou all for your support .
