features - merge edge/veld vertices

hello, my questions are:

1. I can not select edges in my model in feature 'merdge edge' I don't know why? (when this function is deactivated, every differents features work well)

2. when I use a feature 'veld vertices' is works but is leading to crash. the mesh looks correct but doesn't work at all. All the time conversion problem. Could you tell me the rules how to create the mesh? or send me the article about it because I couldn't find it out. Then I could get around so often problems connected with it. the pictures below.

Hi Senger,

The Merge Edge command can only select boundary edges. You mentioned there will be a crash when using “Weld Vertices”. Could you share us the model so we can take a close look at the problem? Which vertices did you select that leads to a crash?

Regarding to the conversion problem, there is a post on the forum talking about how to find issues for your information. I can also take a look at the conversion problem once I get your model.

You can either Export the entire file as .F3d format or Share Public Link with me by enabling the download permission. Both commands are available under the File menu. My email address: lixiong.xu[AT]autodesk.com

You Have two faces between the area your merging verts, delete the faces first then do the weld and it should solve your crashing problem.

I have run into this before just wanted to do more testing before reporting it as a bug. For me deleting the faces first then doing the merge solved the crashing problem.

I hope this helps.

1. how to change a edge to boundary edge and what it changes ?

2. I know one of the edge disturb other and there is a collision but I can't find it out in easy way.

I'm glad it worked for you, now we just need to report this bug so the Fusion Team can fix it.

Cheers and happy modeling!

I should also add that even though the software should delete the internal faces for you, (As I can not really see a case you would want them to stay) It is good modeling practice to clean up your own geometry. The more you rely on a piece of software to correct bad geometry the more you leave yourself open to errors in your mesh.

Solidworks would not crash in a case like this but it would leave the internal faces and would cause you a lot of headaches in other features down the history tree.

The reason I knew how to fix this is in apps like maya, lightwave, 3dsmax, (Which work a lot like the sculpting environment in Fusion 360) leaving the internal faces would cause a crash or at least a bunch of errors.

Because of these nonCAD apps I learned a long time ago clean up as you model and it will help you down the road.

Hi senger.kuba,

Thanks for sharing the model. I can open the model and observe a graphics issue, but I’m not able to reproduce the crash when playing with Weld Vertices.

It seems the version you shared is newer than the one which has the problem. Would it be possible to share more information about the crash so we can dig into it and identify a fix? Thanks a lot! I will follow up the graphics issue with the development team.
