Failed to Boolean bodies together

I'm trying to cut the unicorn shape out of the number two, but I get this error:

Error: edge split at one end: maybe coincident geometries in input body
Failed to Boolean bodies together

I've tried it in the other direction too, number two is the tool and the unicorn is the target.  Joining gives the same error.

What's causing this?

How do I fix it?

Hey there @banksysan ! I ~think~ I was able to fix your issue -- I went into Patch, unstitched both bodies and then re-stiched them and then combined them. This seemed to fix the issue because I was able to combine the re-stiched bodies successfully. I've attached the file, you should be able to roll through the history to see what I did and if see if that fixed your problem! I have no idea what the initial issue was, but this fix seemed to work.

Let me know!

Thanks, I'll have a look and see if I can make sense of it.

The hack-a-day fix I just used was to project the unicorn onto a new
sketch, then use that to extrude through the number two.

Seems to have worked.

If this is needed for 3D printing, in general these bodies don't have be combined in Fusion 360 and the slicer software will take care of this provide the bodies clearly overlap. A least I've been told so by folks that have more experience with 3D printing.

Unstitching and re-stitching is a great workaround for this sort of geometry.

The reason it stitched is because I assume  the stitch tolerance was left at the default of 1mm.

This is a very large tolerance. Fusion 360 will match the edges of the involve surfaces and will modify them so they match within this given tolerance. Unlikely a problem in this case, but be aware of that in other projects.
