Extrusion in a surface with Draft angle

Greetings to all!

I'm trying to replicate this object (it is a cutlery dryer) and the shape of the object is ok, but I cannot create the inner "channel" for the removable division in the front surface that I applied a draft angle. I'm using extrusion command, but it cannot extrude in this angled and rounded surface.

Please see the picture below (picture in bottom right is what I'm trying to do):

And here is a link with my design:

Any help/tip for this issue?

Thank you in advance !

One thing you can try is a loft.

  1. Create a sketch at the top (or at the top level of the slot).
  2. Draw the profile of the slot.
  3. Repeat for the bottom of the slot.
  4. Create a loft between the two sketches using the vertical profile as a rail. I think one of the sides of the front panel can be used, but if not, use a midplane to temporarily split the model in order to get an accurate vertical profile.  After splitting the model create a sketch on the midplane and project the profile onto the sketch.

Or you can use Project to Surface using the slot on the back panel as the input.  This video shows the technique: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEdbBTQ0qaw

Hello Ed and Michal !

Wow, a lot of solutions. I knew that functions, but I lack "flight hours" to figure out those solutions. Thank you very much for your time spent !

Take care, guys !
