Extrude to a plane with an ofset bigger than the distance between the Sketch and the plane

Hey There!
I'd like to use the Extrude command to extrude a sketch with the extend type "to object". However, i want to define an offset, so the resulting body is in the opposite direction of the object i am extruding to. The end result would be, that the body has the thickness specified minus the distance between the object and the sketch plane. For example, if the distance between the Sketch and the object is 50mm and i put in an offset value of 70, i would expect the end result to look like this:

grafik.png

with the body being 20mm thick.

when i try to do this, i get a Warnig:

But it does show me that the body should be 20mm thick:

am i doing something wrong or is this intended?

Best regards,
Markus

I won't say precisely that you are doing something wrong, but certainly unexpected.  That is not what offset or "to object" is for.  Selecting an object specifies the direction and the distance, and the offset is supposed to be just that - an offset from the selected object.

Why not just create an offset plane on the correct side of the profile?

I have a bunch of objects for wich i have height measurements from the real world. But these measurements have an arbitrarily choosen point of reference. So i wanted to make the plane my point of reference and offset the heights so i can later move the plane and everything gets higher/lower by that amount. You are right, i could just make offset planes to extrude to, i just thought i could save myself the work and use an offset. I would have normally just accepted that that wasnt possible and moved on, but as mentionend Fusion even shows the direction and length i expected, why cant it then make the body?

I can't... because it showes an error. Of what should i send a sample file?

Use formulas in your dimensions and user parameters to adjust sizes.

Hi,

is it something like this?

Screencast

Create user parameters for extrude offset and offset plane distance, if necessary.

yeah almost, by offset i meant the offset from the plane. But user parameter are exactly what i need! I didn't know they existed. Thanks!

Edit: also thanks to @etfrench  who suggested parameters too.
