Extrude issues

I'm having a new issue with extrude.

If I start a sketch with a circle to extrude as a diameter, lets say Ø3.50" and extrude it 3.00" long, I get the result I want, a cylinder. however, when I make a new sketch in a different plane, lets say to create a sketch for a 1.00" x 1.00" rectangular pocket on the periphery of the body I just created, as soon as I select extrude to extrude the rectangular pocket, the plane switches to that of the cylinder I just created with a warning "object is not visible" and I am unable to create a body. I know there are other ways to create this type of feature, but until an hour ago, I have always been able to create solids using this method.

Any suggestions?

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

I am having trouble understanding your issue - can  you create a Screencast Recording?

My crystal ball interpretation is that Sketch2 is buried within the solid cylinder and you can't select it.

Start the Extrude command and then lonnnnnng left click inside the visual area of the rectangle.

You should get a selection cycle box that allows you to get the rectangle.

Well, I just tried a bit more and I cannot reproduce what you describe.

Create that video to illustrate the issue.

Edit 2:  The only way that I can create the error you describe is if I hide the cylinder and then attempt to Extrude-cut the rectangle.

If you want to Extude-cut the cylinder, then leave it visible and use the selection manager to get to the Sketch2 profile.

Well I was forced to restart my computer due to a network update and upon return, my problem was solved. I was attempting to build a screencast and un/fortunately I was unable to recreate the problem.

I apologize for any time wasted on your part.

I will keep this post alive in the case that my problem returns.
