Exporting from Fusion360 to 3DS Max

Hi all,

Not sure which forum to post this in, but everyone has been really helpful with regards to Fusion on here so I am hoping this is the right place.

A friend of mine is a professional user of 3DS MAX for a studio. So when I started building models in Fusion I naturally wanted to show him what I had managed to do.

So as a bit of a muck about project I built myself a lightsaber (geeky I know, but I had just watched teh new StarWars). I showed him my render and design and he said if I exported it, he would take a look and see what kind of render he could get out of it in MAX for me.

Here starts the issues, exporting it as a .STP file will not open in Max at all for some reason, so we tried it as an .FBX file. This opened no problems but also imported the construction planes and classed them as part of the model, so when we hid the construction planes parts of the model that were touching the planes also hid.

I have attached a couple of pictures, one is the render from Fusion, and the 2nd in the FBX file in max when the construction planes are hidden.

Basically am I doing this right?
Is there a better file format to use?

And help is greatly appreciated as always.

Thankyou for your time
Stuart

It sounds like you're doing everything correctly. Do you know which version of 3DS Max he is using to open the STEP file?

You could also try exporting to an Inventor file format from Fusion 360. 3DS Max is capable of importing Inventor files as a mesh or body object model.

I hope that helps.

Thanks,

Sorry for the late reply, been a bit hectic at work.

Exporting it as Inventor seemed to do the trick.
Thankyou for your help

Kind Regards
