Export to STL vs save as STL

I am confusion that there is two options to make the same. One of them is "Export" (from the File menu) to STL. Need cloud, works very slow and don't ask for options. Other is Save as STL from the context menu on body or, sometimes, on  the file name. Very quick an offer options of quality (high, medium, low). What is pros and cons of both method? Why may I need the cloud method, if local computation is quick and fine?

Hi @splarv

I have never used Export/STL. I were not aware of the STL option there until you mentioned. I've always used Save As STL.

 

I saved a file here using both ways, and it seems that Export/STL creates a STL file with Medium Refinement.

 

Using Save As STL, you have more options, which you've already found out, and you can save single bodies, single components, or the whole file (root component) easily.

 

Note that only visible objects will be saved in either way; if you try to save a hidden part, nothing will happens.

Yep, and save as STL a much very quicker. Why Export to STL did not do in the same manner?

I really don't know why it takes so many minutes for this operation.

There is a support page for this issue and the solution is... Save As STL.

STL Export from Fusion 360 is very slow 

 

I came across with other topics about this, but I couldn't find a reason.

The reason is because "export to STL" is a cloud operation. %) I don't see reason do not make it local operation, like "save to STL" is. 🙂 May be this is just deprecated option.
