Error when trying to patch surface

Hi,

I just spent a while trying to get a patch to work.  It kept failing saying there was an error in the geometry.  At first I thought maybe it was too curvy a surface, so smoothed out the edges, but no success.  I finally made the edge a little wider and then it worked.  I'd just like to understand what the parameters are for a patch to work.  i.e., what are the geometry issues that would cause it to fail?  Are there minimum distances the edges must be apart?

Again, I solved the problem by making the surface area wider, but just trying to understand the parameters for patching without errors.

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous,

Yes, Boundary Patch in Fusion can be tricky to get to work.  Unfortunately, there aren't really a lot of parameters you can tweak to get it to work in some cases.  Your approach to fixing it is probably the best one.  If the area to be patched has exactly 4 sides, you can do a surface Loft instead.  I'd recommend that when you can use this approach, because the surface quality is also better.

Making Boundary Patch more robust is something that is definitely on our roadmap, because we realize its current limitations.
