I read through this thread:

Solved: I can't emboss a sketch to a sphere - Autodesk Community

and I wanted to know whether there's any solutions if you wanted to coat the whole sphere, and whether the function that was mentioned, has it been released for embossing a double curved surface?

File and screenshot added below

kind regards

Ricky

Embossing can work if the mapping is limited to a small section and accuracy isnt required.

To cover an entire sphere with hexagons more mathematical methods are needed, also often involving pentagons and triangles.

For example, the red glassy structure is a dodecahedron.

The larger 5-sided stars connect to the corners of the dodecahedron.

The smaller 5-sided stars connect to the center point of the sides of the dodecahedron and, as such, form an icosidoecahedron.

A soccer ball consists of hexagons and pentagons and forms a truncated icosahedron.

Etc.
