Ellipse won't behave itself. How do i constrain this thing?

I have spent 4 hours trying to make a parametric model and I am 99% done, but the ellipse won't behave.

So i created a much simpler project, but I still don't get it

how do i get an ellipse to constrain to project constraints. I need it to be a certain height,(based on a parametric parameter)

got a pic or example model? that would help understand your problem.

are you trimming or breaking the ellipse? they tend to go haywire when you do that.

Screencast insert doesn't work most of the time. Just include a link to it..

don't use the controls at the bottom of the post for screen casts, they are broken.  either copy/past the link into the body of the post or embed the html code

add a horizontal constraint to one of the control lines
or
constrain BOTH ends of the control lines to the corners of the rectangle

im not trying to be difficult, can you please show me. I have spent 4 hours trying in another model, I am missing something

it has to move with the project lines. I have no trouble in the other model if I use a line, instead.

@laughingcreek not sure why i am replying to myself

also don't understand, its fully constrained (black) yet only works when you grow it?

I spoke to soon. logically speaking, just constraining to the mid point and to the corner of the rectangle should have constrained it properly (so, no, your not crazy). this is definitely bug. seems like ellipse has always been buggy.

@jeff_strater , an ellipse bug? not sure if it's old or new.  in the attached model, change the 90 dim to 20 to see it in action.

4 hours of my life, gone again for what does appear to be a bug. I also am seeing circle do something similar

you can also see the vertical control axis is unmoored from the ellipse in this screen cast-

circle should be behaving, do you have an example of that?

I have enough gray hair for tonight, I will wait for jeff's response then look at circle, I really need ellipse to work

Constrain both major axis end points to the projected line.

The minor axis is tilted in the video and file downloaded, mine does not fail, but I have a perpendicular constraint that was automatic because I draw small axis first.

Might help.....

I think @laughingcreek is right and it's a bug (I saw this happen sometimes when drawing ellipse over a projected line). Meanwhile I think you can try this: draw your ellipse elsewhere (i.e. without snapping over projected line), then apply Midpoint between its center and your line, and Coincident between one end of ellipse and one end of line. See the attached file.

Ping @shaan.hurley this is almost a daily issue on the Fusion forum.  Does Andrew know about this issue? Might as well remove that field.

That flawed implementation of an ellipse is really, really old.

This isn't the first time this has been pointed out!

@hamid.sh. your work around works. 4 hours shot, fixed in 30 seconds.

yes it definitely broke, i had to apply up 3 constraints in my current model to make it work, but for now its fine, it gets me going again

made a video of it now working

@jeff_strater did I find another bug?
