Ellipse Issues: Unable to create a tangent plane on the face of an ellipse

I extruded an sketched ellipse and tried to create a tangent plane on the rounded face, but I'm not able to select it. Is there something I'm missing?

I'm also having issues with sketches created via an offset of the ellipse, such as the inability to project the offset sketch, and constraints do not work properly.

The gif below shows multiple attempts to click on the face with no success at selecting it:

Yes, this is a known limitation of this workplane command - it is limited to cylinders and cones at the present.
