Editing texture photo in physical material (to create multiple colors)

Hello,

 

I am trying to figure out a way to create a few different colors of Polyurethane Foam in my model to represent different densities and allow for differentiation during section analysis (in browser review).

 

This is what I tried:

  1. Assign PU foam as physical material (worked)
  2. Duplicate PU foam material and rename to "PU Foam Dense" (worked)
  3. Edit Material -> advanced - see attached image below (worked)
  4. Locate the 'image' on my computer so I can edit the color (stuck)

Is it not possible to access/edit this image? I figured I could just photoshop it to be a few different colors and use those as different foam materials in my model. However, I can not locate the source image on my computer.

 

Am I going about this the wrong way? I can't help but feel like there's probably a more simple approach...

Run a search on your harddrive for foam04 and it will pop up in the search.

I did and it came up for me.

You can then edit the file and save to whatever location you want.

@PhilProcarioJr That is what I tried, but for some reason the file doesn't show up? Strange it worked for you. When trying to get there manually, I don't seem to have an Autodesk folder inside the /application support folder. I am on a mac – are you mac or PC?

@njmartell Do you know if you installed Fusion from the Mac Apple Store or from the Autodesk website? There are some differences in the installation locations between these version, so that may be part of the confusion.

 

The other thing that may cause confusion is that there are actually two library folders. A system and a user library folder on Mac OS. By default, the User Library directory is hidden (and the one you need to get to judging by your screenshots). The below link shows how you can get to it. I think that is the Library you need

I'm kind of confused by this question. Same steps in the appearance section. Make sure you have your material panel opened all the way. If the section has color options change it to image. Because some materials have different default intrusions they don't always have bump or density to change. I'm not sure how to create base model materials for Fusion 360.

From there you can apply the texture. Considering I am using a ratio 1:1. They're just squares. And the colors don't come out right. Double click on the selected image. Here you can change settings. In my project it's important to change position offset, position rotation and just the scale(size) in the texture editor.

Since I'm using a demonstration. The scale is easy. 100mm by 150mm for the entire texture.

Compliments on trying to get something like this done. The texture is ready. Except this is the setting for the x and y coordinates of the model. I'm not sure how Fusion 360 handles mapping at all. As far as it decides where to put the texture. I rotated the position 90 degrees. And assumed the image starts at the top left corner. The texture size will also float the position on the placed z axises. The starting position changes there and handles separate from x and y.

However, the x and y can be resized with the texture in place. This is in no way an idea way to manage textures. And, I would just recommend using surfaces on the demo model. If the surfaces are possible to conform to the model dimensions. The thinnest base of coat of paint on F1 is approximately ^/*0.023 millimeters on areas. The texture should also be saved in the F3D model material.

Well here's actually a better. Object to play with. Because it only has scale to 100mm. And, adding 50mm to the sides will add more texture to the extrude of the model. Since it's 2x2. I figured out it works by splitting the texture in the center as the edge. I have no idea how to identify which side is the so called parent of the texture. I know for sure they twist the texture as z axis in the model to be the width. That's why I know I usually end up rotating. I mean why not. This should answer a lot of questions for textures.
