Dynamic Text from User Parameter?

Anonymous
Not applicable

I'm working on a fairly simple project, which is a parametric "balloon sizer" - basically a partial ring of a specified diameter. It's going smoothly, but the finishing touch would be to have a text sketch object that prints out the sole parameter, Size, so that it automatically labels the sizer.

I can't seem to find any way to do this. Suggestions?

This would require the Text tool to display the value of a parameter which it does not currently do.

Thanks,

Hello Dynamic text is for my work also higly required. I have to make 50 models in differnt masurements. The massurments have to be writen on eache model.   On the moment I have to add the masurements for eache model by hand. It could save me a lot of work

Sorry for posting in a old thread but is there any plans to add the option for it to work ?

Pretty sure you could do this with a script. You can defiantly read parameters in a script and you have access to text in sketches. I'm not good enough with python in Fusion to figure this out but I'm pretty sure you could have a custom script that could read predefined parameters and edit\replace text in a sketch with new values at the press of a button.

Will the script follow with the 3d file if I export it and give it to a friend ?

No they would need the script as well. The script and parameters it works on would be fixed, for example a parameter PartNo or PartX, PartY. So you'd edit the parameter and then run the script and the text would update, the script could be an add-in so you'd just have a button to press.

Thinking about it a bit more, you'd need a named sketch as well for the text. Not as good as referencing a parameter directly but you could do it now rather than wait for it to be implemented.

So it is sometime later 🙂 , Ans I still have the issue. Perhaps someone made s script in the meantime? would be great if you can share it to the people that have no idea how to make a script. Thanks.

Definitely need this. When experimenting with different sizings in prototypes, it's important to have the sizing printed on the prints to keep track. Having to go in and change the text each time along with changing the user parameters gets tiresome, especially with Fusion getting slower and more sluggish with each and every update.

Hello,

There is a plugin that can add the version number and part name to the modell dynamically each time you save.

https://github.com/Orvillebe/Fusion360Scripting/tree/master/AddIns

I'm trying to expand the code to have option to only add version number or just part name.

If I get it to work well I'm going to fork the github and upload my version.
