Drill point depth control

When using the hole feature, the drill point does not seem to be taken into consideration when controling depth.

I have to change the point angle so it simulate a flat bottom hole to get a true bottom depth.  Is this a new feature request or something I am not doing correctly?

Try the Drill Tip Through Bottom setting.

This will determine if the drill depth is calculated to the point or to the full body diameter.  You may also get more responses from the CAM fourm vs. design and documentation.

I think he's talking about the hole tool in the model work space. There the option is depth of the parallel part only.

@HughesTooling thats too funny.  I fee kind of dumb now just assume it was for CAM drill depth. Smiley Embarassed

Correct, it is the modelling aspect

I think I get what you are asking now 🙂

If you model a hole .7" deep the depth is measured where the hole is at the full diameter not at the drill point.  So yes the drill point will be deeper than the depth you enter in the dialog box when there is a drill point on the hole.

It is how it also works in SolidWorks and other CAD programs I have used.  Both hole in the below images were modeled at .7" depth.

yes, this is correct - when using a drill point angle, the depth is measured along the cylindrical part of the hole, and does not take drill point angle into account.  For intance, for this one inch hole:

if you measure after you create the hole, the depth from one circular edge to the other is one inch:

I think this is a pretty common CAD convention.

Somewhat related:  For the next major update, Fusion will remember your UI settings in a session.  So, if you like to use a drill point angle of 180 to get a flat hole, Fusion will default to that value the next time you use it.

Hope this is clear,

well that was weird - when I looked a this post 10 minutes ago, it did not show any responses, so I added one. As soon as I hit post, I see these other great responses, so mine is kind of a duplicate. Anyway, lonniecady and were saying the same thing. Sorry for the extra traffic!
