Drawing notes without edge selection

We have a need for making a leader note when edges are not available for selection.  For example, you cannot pick a general area without an edge to note a specification or instruction for manufacturing.  In some programs you can do this by selecting a surface. When selecting the surface or general area without an edge, the leader does not have an arrow at the end of it, you get a dot.  Does anyone have a method of doing this?

It is not pretty but you can create a leader note, without attaching to an edge, using the Leader command in the drawing Sketch Environment.

I believe they also have additional notes and leader functions slated on the drawings roadmap for this year including surface attachment but it's anybody's guess when that may go live.

That's encouraging! I hope they do make those improvements.
