Currently Detail views are hard coded to use a"Smooth" model edge setting, so this is expected. We haven't exposed the option to modify this, but it sounds like you would prefer Smooth with border (full circle around the detail view) instead. I will forward this request to our designers. Other possibilities down the road would be Rectangular instead of Circular view boundary and Smooth with border and connection line, or a jagged edge for the detail view.
I'd also like to hear from others who may have a preferred setting other than the current behavior.
