Draft function error on walls & creating bevil

Hi,

I've been attempting to use the Draft function to create bevelled outer walls for these cookie cutters. I have problems with it allowing me to create the 5 degree draft on certain faces. One, in particular, it either refuses to draft or it creates a tiny 'lip of a bevilled edge that I didn't expect, and the rest of the face is still straight.

I'm expecting this to be entirely user error as I'm new to using this app. Appreciate any help!

section before Draft appliedsection before Draft appliedSelected faceSelected facethe Draft that occurs creating a new face. Instead of pulling the whole face as a drafted edgethe Draft that occurs creating a new face. Instead of pulling the whole face as a drafted edge

Are your curves imported?

can you export your model as a .f3d and attach to a post?

the original line work was created in adobe illustrator then imported as an SVG file into Fusion. I notice that the walls have a lot of faces too, which maybe is an issue? but I don't know how to merge them into 1 continuous smooth surface, or if that even matters? Ive attached the file as requested.

I really appreciate your help!

when imported curves are involved, they are the source of the issue about 90% of the time.  imported curves and fusion don't play well.  I don't know if it's the way the source program creates them, or if fusion mangles them during import, or a combo of both.

sketching in fusion and drawing in just about any other program is very different, and is the reason many have troubles with the sketcher in fusion.   I'll look at the file and get back in a min.

Your curves a a lot of "near tangency" conditions between just about every line segment.  this eats fusion lunch.  It's also very common to see this in curves imported from illustrator.  Here is a zebra analysis of the extrusion.  the breaks in the stripes indicates face transitions that aren't tangent.

I would suggest redrawing these curves in fusion.  The first sketch should be the actual cutout shape. as in the inside surface that actually cuts the perimeter of the cookie.  everything else will get created in reference to that shape.

If your interested we can walk you thru this, but first I also going to suggest going to your preferences and making sure these are de-selected.-

after that, create a new drawing and take a stab at making just the profile shape and post it here.  you can import the original curve first and use it as a visual reference, but have it on a different sketch and don't constrain to it.

then post it here.

Oh this is so helpful, thank you! I'll have a go at it as per your instructions and revert with any questions/files!

Two weeks later I finally had time to sit down and learn how to trace and create one from scratch directly in Fusion360. @laughingcreek  thanks to your help, I learnt a lot and I think I began to get the hang of it too. Check it out 😁
